INSPIRATIONAL “ASHES OF EDEN” GIVES FIRST TASTE
For Immediate Release: January 2013

The Michigan All-Star drama “Ashes of Eden” intends to showcase the power of Michigan-based talent. All too often films coming into Michigan look at the local talent for only extra or featured roles. Much like Michigan proud actor Jeff Daniels, several great film talents working nationally/internationally have chose to make Michigan their home. This New House Entertainment, Collective Development Inc., Ahptic Productions feature just may change how casting is done in Michigan or at least create a second look at the existing talent base.

“For a production to overlook the immense local Michigan talent pool for supporting/principal casting due to geography is just not responsible.” – DJ Perry

Director Shane Hagedorn and Producer DJ Perry did just that – showcased some of Michigan’s finest. While the film boasts a few imports, you can count them on one hand. These few outsiders also bring awareness to what Michigan can offer on both sides of the camera.

"I can proudly state that this film will be the breakout movie for our Michigan lead talent. These rising stars of tomorrow, explode on the screen with their performances in [Ashes]." -Shane Hagedorn

“Ashes of Eden” has been compared to an Urban “American Graffiti” or something in the vein of “The Outsiders”. It’s an emotionally charged coming-of-age story. The film follows the life of a freshly turned 18 year-old Red. The tortured soul is played newcomer Steven Sutherland of Garden City, Michigan. In the film, he’s the troubled son of a female police officer played by Saugatuck, Michigan’s Melissa Anschutz. It’s the story of a young man growing up without a father. It showcases the influences tugging on him from all sides as he struggles to learn what being a good man is about.

The teaser also showcases co-stars actors DJ Perry and Carlucci Weyant as wickedly complex rival drug dealers. Shane Hagedorn and Michael Joiner as competing suitors both try to help bring Dana’s son Red around. Bello Pizzimenti and Drew Wise play Red’s best friend and younger brother who both become entangled in Red’s consequences to his choices. Overall the film is a weaving of different lives interconnected by shared fears, hopes and dreams. The film illustrates how difficult life can be and how faith, love and respect can turn lives around from the brink of self-destruction. It proves that Eden can once again bloom and rise from the ashes of our mistakes and trespasses.

The film is slated to be complete in May 2013 and looks to having a Summer Michigan premiere before distributing worldwide.

INTRODUCING MORE STARS OF “ASHES OF EDEN”
For Immediate Release – October 2012
Lansing, MI USA

The past few weeks have brought us exciting news from the Great Lake state of Michigan. Several Michigan companies have come together to tell an edgy and inspiring story told with a trademark gritty Michigan style. New House Entertainment is director/writer Shane Hagedorn’s company. Producer/actor DJ Perry has brought Collective Development Inc. an established motion picture company since 1996, with partner Jeff Kennedy. Director of photography T. Dominic Cochran has brought the might of his commercial company Ahptic Productions, his partners Matt Martyn, Jon Berlinski and their high end gear. Dennis Therrian and his Therrian Productions will provide a rich music score and premier sound design mixes.

Keeping in the Michigan theme, the producers went out of their way to make sure they put a focus on some of the state's best screen talent.

“I’m tired of seeing productions come into the state and pass over our local talent for starring roles simply because we are from the Midwest.” – DJ Perry, producer

The production team poured over a slew of resume reels and requested materials looking for the right talent to bring these characters to life. The team is happy to announce that they have found additional talent including their film’s lead RED. That honor is going to Mr. Steven Sutherland born and raised in Garden City, Michigan. Steven had dreams of acting from a young age. A self admitted class clown, he discovered his ability to perform; earning some early awards of academic achievement. This drive to succeed was further inspired my his father who noted that he believed his son would “be a great actor someday.” The production team of “Ashes of Eden” couldn’t agree more.

"Steven's audition was raw and engaging. He tapped into some tough emotions. Outside is a visibly tough exterior, but there was real vulnerability behind his eyes; that's what I was looking for in the character of RED." -- Shane Hagedorn, Director

Josh Carrizales, a Texas native currently calling Grand Rapids, MI home has been cast as one of the film’s colorful antagonists. Josh has preformed in over 60 stage productions and is starting to build a great film resume within the state.

Production also announced Abby Murphy, an actress from the Lansing area who will play a supporting role as a troubled woman. Off beat characters and powerful performances has become her mainstay. She has quickly become a favorite onstage at Michigan theaters such as Peppermint Creek, Riverwalk and Over The Ledge Playhouse. She is excited to be on board with Shane Hagedorn and the creative team of artists in “Ashes of Eden”.

The Lansing, Michigan based feature film “Ashes of Eden” being produced by Shane Hagedorn and DJ Perry has recently announced some additional cast members. The film “Ashes of Eden” is a collaboration between New House Entertainment, Collective Development Inc. and Ahptic Productions. “Ashes of Eden” is a gritty drama with a redemptive ending showcasing a wide spectrum of characters we all can relate to.

One of these characters will be portrayed by dramatic powerhouse Abigail Mason, winner of the 2008 Grace Award for Most Inspirational TV Acting for her role in “Saving Sarah Cain,” directed by Michael Landon Junior. Abigail continues to seek out the most quality stories. Abigail also received a Nomination for Leading Young Actress in TV Movie (Young Artist Award) for her work. Abigail will play opposite fellow Michigan actor DJ Perry, both playing drug dealers who endanger the film’s lead.

“Abby is one of the best talents to come from the state of Michigan and we’re glad to have her aboard.” – DJ Perry, producer

Also joining the cast is Owosso, Michigan actor Anthony Hornus. He is a powerful character actor known for notable roles in such films as “Heaven’s Neighbors,” “Wicked Spring” and “Miracle at Sage Creek”.

– Shane Hagedorn, director/producer

Lastly, Mary Grace Casanova will play a supporting role in the film as the auntie to our Hispanic leads played by Texas actress Mayra Leal and NYC actor Carlucci Weyant.
